Position: Library Settlement Practitioner

Location: Edmonton, AB

Position Type: Regular full-time (35 hours/week)

Salary: Based on Collective Agreement

Starting Date: April 3, 2023

Job Summary

The Library Settlement program is a partnership between Edmonton Immigrant Services Association and Public Libraries in Edmonton and surrounding areas. The program’s primary objective is to provide and connect newcomers to available settlement services and resources in the community.  Services are delivered by Settlement Practitioners based in Edmonton, St. Albert, Fort Saskatchewan and Strathcona County public libraries. 

EISA is looking for two settlement practitioners to be based in public library branches.  The practitioners will proactively contact newcomers in the library and neighbourhood to assist them with their settlement and integration needs.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct outreach and promote the program to various stakeholders in the community.
  • Conduct client intake and needs assessment across a broad range of settlement areas
  • Refer or link clients to appropriate services as needed.
  • Provide information and orientation about life in Canada through one-one or group sessions.
  • Provide information to newcomers and link them to available services and resources in the community.
  • Organize activities that will help newcomers establish social and professional networks.
  • Document the client’s service and enter data according to the agency’s requirements

Key Qualifications

  • Degree in Social/Human Sciences or related areas
  • Experience working with immigrants or refugees
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and intercultural communication skills
  • Excellent resource, time management, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and as a part of a team
  • Excellent knowledge of available community resources/services
  • Fluency in Ukrainian or Dari would be an asset

Other Requirements

  • Available to work in the evenings and at weekends as required
  • A current Criminal Record Check is required
