Frequently Asked Questions

Q: I have questions about my Temporary Work Permit or Study Visa. Can I get help at EISA?

A: Yes! We have staff that know how the immigration systems works, and are willing to help newcomers.

Q: I would like to bring my parents over to Canada, but am not sure how to do that. How can you help me?

A: Our Settlement Practitioners understand the sponsorship process and can help you fill out all necessary paperwork

Q: My children need to go to school, but I have no idea how to find one for them. What can you do to help me?

A: Our staff put on several information sessions every year that provide information to newcomers on issues related to education, health care, housing, and employment. Visit our Programs and Services link or give us a call at 780-474-8445 for more information.

Q: Do I need to pay to meet with EISA staff?

A: No!! We are a non-profit organization that is supposed to help newcomers to our city adjust to life in Canada. It would go against our mission statement to charge people money for what we offer. Our Language Bank and ESL Programs are offered for a small fee, but all other programs and services we offer are free of charge.

Q: What if I have a question that you cannot answer? Can you still assist me?

A: Yes! We will do every best to address your concerns. If we are not able to give you the help you need, we will refer you to another person or agency who can. It will never be a waste of your time to talk with us!!

Q: I want to volunteer to help newcomers. How can I donate my time to EISA?

A: Absolutely! Our services are in high demand and require a constant supply of volunteers ready and willing to help newcomers to our city. Our volunteer opportunities are flexible and give you the chance to put their biggest skills to work to help other people. We provide basic training and orientation for all our volunteers! Visit our Volunteer and Donate page or contact us and ask to speak to our Volunteer Coordinator for more detail.

Q: Are you folks part of another immigrant services organization?

A: No. We work collaboratively with our friends at Catholic Social Services, the Edmonton Mennonite Centre for Newcomers, and other immigrant serving agencies, but are 100% independent and offer services that are different from what others do.
